Kickstarter Focus: Mage’s Initiation

The indie team behind the acclaimed King’s Quest and Quest for Glory remakes has turned to Kickstarter for their upcoming adventure/RPG, Mage’s Initiation. With the storytelling and puzzle solving of an adventure game and the customization and stat building of an RPG, Mage’s Initiation is a unique hybrid that will be experienced differently by everyone who plays it.

Himalaya Studios have been making retro-styled adventure games for twelve years — mostly freeware labors of love. The Anonymous Game Developers got their start with a fan remake of Sierra’s flagship adventure, King’s Quest I, which they updated with a point and click interface, SVGA graphics, and voice acting. This “anonymous” tradition continued with revamps of the next two King’s Quest games and Quest for Glory II, all of which the team released as freeware under the name AGD Interactive. They also released an original commercial game, Al Emmo and the Lost Dutchman’s Mine, as Himalaya Studios.

Mage’s Initiation is a Role-Playing / Adventure Game hybrid, very similar in style and execution to Sierra On-Line’s classic Point-&-Click Quest for Glory and King’s Quest series. It maintains all the charm of classic and timeless adventure games of yesteryear while adding 21st century innovation to the mix –  like multiple game interfaces, and a free-range magical combat system!

We’re all very big fans of the adventure genre here at Himalaya Studios, and we feel that Sierra’s games really hit their peak in the early 90s. We’re working hard to provide a nostalgic experience, reminiscent of that golden era of 2D Sierra adventures circa 1993-1994.

Mage’s Initiation has a medieval / fantasy setting and it features multiple playable character classes, spell-casting, and an open-field magical combat system, complete with equippable items and monster loot drops!

We’re big fans of adventure, point & click and the classic Sierra games at Creative Gaming, so Mage’s Initiation is shaping up to tick all the right boxes.  Himalaya Studios are asking for a very modest $65,000 to back Mage’s Initiation and with such an accomplished and proven track record it goes without saying that Mage’s Initiation will end up being worth playing. To make it happen, head over to the Mage’s Initiation Kickstarter.
