Jotun, a project by William Dubé, recently funded by Kickstarter. In the game, you play as Thora, a female Norse warrior who has not died a glorious death, and so must face the challenges of purgatory in order to enter Valhalla.

There are many different areas to explore with varied environmental puzzles to solve, set in the same mysterious and romantic mood of Journey. The travel and puzzle sections will provide you with runes and other goodies, which will aid you in you quest to defeat the Jotuns.

The Jotuns are giants, and the battles seem particularly reminiscent of Shadow of the Colossus mixed with The Legend of Zelda and Dark Souls, all in glorious hand drawn 2D. Seriously, be sure to take a look at the art and especially the beautifully done animations, they are just wonderful. With these epic boss battles, come simple controls. The basic actions are to attack, move and dodge. Although they may seem very basic, the combat is fast paced and requires great reactions to dodge attacks and position yourself for a counter and quick thinking about whether to go for a charge attack or a series of quick swings.

And of course, all this is accompanied by some rather epic music. Whether you are fighting a gigantic Jotun or staring out to a beautiful vista, you can be sure to find some wonderful music composed by Max LL. Be sure to have a listen to some of the sample scores on their Kickstarter page.

While their kickstarter campaign may be over, you can still support them through Paypal and Amazon Payments via Humble Bundle. The game has already been green lighted by steam, and if you cannot tell, I too am excited for this project to be realised – and you certainly should be too.
